Spey Fest

Each year in June, STFF hosts their annual Spey Fest at the Barge Hole Gravel Bar, on the Sacramento River. Originally developed on the Spey River in Scotland over 150 years ago, Spey or more properly "Double-Handed" fishing and casting techniques have proven to be a popular and easy to learn alternate to single-handed casting and fishing techniques. This event is free to the public and includes a free lunch. The event includes Double-Handed Casting Demo's, Vendors, Spey Fly Tying and other activities. The focus of the Spey Fest is to provide spey and switch rod casting opportunities to the experienced or inexperienced angler or anyone who is just curious.

This event is always well attended and draws Spey aficionados from the San Francisco Bay area and throughout the Northwest. STFF offers this event as a way to provide the public with alternate perspectives on fly fishing. Double-handed techniques are becoming increasingly popular not only with the people wishing to use long rods, but also with single-handed rod anglers due to the casting techniques also being highly effective with single-handed rods.
