Sacramento River Rainbow

The President's Line...

Dog days of summer are here, that dreaded time for some but long awaited for others. Although no one likes 100+ degree weather, this is a very good time of year to enjoy everything that’s happening in the fishing world, around us. We don’t fish all day, but the mornings and evenings provide lots of options for 1st class fishing, especially in those waters above the valley floor, such as Hat Creek, Fall River, the Upper Sac, etc.

Evening activity can be exceptional this time of the year, with caddis, mayfly and stonefly hatches reaching their peak. At the time of this writing, the “Hex” hatch was in full swing on Fall River and Lake Almanor. Evenings on the lower Sac here in town have been going strong, many of the areas in higher altitudes that were not accessible earlier, are now fishable. With so many opportunities available, it’s tough to decide where to go. Of course, school is out and the crowds will dictate some decisions as to where to fish.

In the meantime, we continue to work on the clubhouse and have the outside almost completed. Work on the inside will begin soon and we’ll need volunteers to assist our experienced members.

Our monthly intermediate tying classes will continue on the 1st Wed. of each month at 6pm, 1 Safe Place on Benton Dr.

Our next outing will be announced at this months meeting, which will be on Wed. the 13th of July. Our program for the evening will be given by our own Dennis Barry and will focus on the fantastic fishing in Costa Rica.

This is a great evening, see you Wed. June 8th.
